Dream Weaver/ing

“Technology: the knack of so arranging the world so we need not to experience it. ” —– Max Frisch

“Don’t forget to use your digits” —–Lynda Barry

When I go to the art supply store, I try to take a moment to see if there is something new I might try to make with on my own. My art education is basically, “Choose My Own Adventure”

I like the idea of “Talismans ” in my work space. Things I see and touch when I find myself “stuck” or just “drawing blanks”.

I always wanted a Dream Weaver. So I bought this kit to make my own. It was pretty easy doing the wrapping on the metal ring. The inner weave seemed a bit daunting. So I put it away for another day.  To start an artistic working while feeling a bit frustrated would be a setup for failure. Life itself got into the  mix. It would be weeks before I got back to this.

I had gotten to fixated on the picture of the Dream Weaver from the instructions photo. Also, to Dream Weavers I had seen in displays. I had to do some meditation on this process of mine. I realized that instructions (especially in art) are about setting the “Compass” towards a direction. Not necessarily an exact “destination “. Just go Step-by-step to get there.

In this case…. To Get to This…

The inner weave is my own. Like dreams themselves, I had to make them my own.

As Joseph Campbell said…..

“If you see your path in front of you  step by step, you know it’s not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That’s why it’s your path.”
