I have had this rock in my possession for years. I found it one day hiking a trial. I forgot which one it was. Of all the rocks that I step over, I still don’t know why this one “called” out for me to pick it up?
There are now days in which I put this rock in my pocket as I go to work. I don’t believe that rocks (or crystals) hold any “special magic” with them. It is just something to remind myself to try to stay Grounded.. Especially, in the winter months when I can’t walk barefoot on the lawn or dip my feet into the creek.

In an age of digital connections everywhere and to everything, the rock reminds me to stay in touch with my own senses. Touch and hold. The pen on the paper. Turning the pages of a book. Moving a paint brush across the canvas. Listen to the music. Watch a movie without hitting pause. To simply go for walk. To look out a window and be still, just observe.

The rock ain’t a bad to be carrying about. It is just a contradiction to the current state of digital existence. And what kind of life is that really in a practical sense?
